ABOUT ME

Hi my name is Mick, I Have studied, trained and practiced in a diverse mix of therapies over the past 10 years, qualifying at different stages along the way in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2017, with Integrative Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy being my main field of practice.

I am currently attending the University of Nottingham studying a MA in Trauma.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Upon completing 24 years’ service in the Armed Forces, I embarked on a 3-year degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. The knowledge, skills and wisdom that I have gained whilst traveling the world protecting people from the emotional tortures of war, accompanied with my academic understanding of the human mind has placed me in a unique position as a therapist. I am able to understand and walk with my client whilst they travel on their own journey in search of fulfillment. I see myself as a congruent therapist who does not judge or condemn the client for what they may bring to therapy. Showing unconditional positive regard with effective communication skills, I am able to hear what the client is communicating, in both their words and within their phenomenological presence. My holistic approach to therapy allows me to adapt to an ever-changing society and environment.

MY COUNSELLING APPROACH

Some problems lay in the past and others are very much in the present and therefore a wide-ranging mix of therapeutic methods will be used.  Initially the client and therapist will work together by starting the first session(s) in the present, followed by exploring the past and then working towards a positive future.  All sessions will be up-held in the strictest of confidence and provide the three main core conditions of empathy, honesty and unconditional Positive Regard establishing a therapeutic relationship between both the client and the therapist.  All sessions will work within the boundaries of the British Association For Counselling and Psychotherapy Code of Ethics.
